Did you know cicadas live underground for several years (7, I believe) before emerging and climbing up a tree? They leave their shells, their exoskeletons behind. I loved collecting these as a kid, and I still look at them and think they look like warriors. :-)

Not a great or amazing shot, but I rather like it. And I like how the sun illuminated the shell.

Ooo! I really like this piece! It's very sharp, with good use of color and texture. When I was a kid, I remember playing with these things too! Isn't there supposed to be a re-emergence sometime soon?

Great macro! I love the bright gold color you got from it as well as the wonderful texture of the wood that it's clinging to. Very nicely done and neat title; I've never thought about them that way but I'll probably have to now that you have mentioned it! Good job

I remember collecting those as a kid too! ^^ I love the way the sun lights up shell, it contrasts really well against the wood. (And gives it a very nice shadow too.)

Wonderful shot, well organized.

Thank you!! I usually have very boring titles, but this one begged something more, in my opinion. :-) I'm glad you like it! :-)

Thank you! :-) Summertime is when they come out. :-) And you can hear them in the trees. I love the sound of them, some people call them "summer bugs".

Thank you! It's a cicada, or "summer bug" . You can hear the insects in the trees during the summertime usually. :-)
